Goa Power Planning Tool (GPPT)
Goa Power Planning Tool (GPPT) is an open-source energy modelling platform built on the dataset of the Goa Power Dashboard.
While the dashboard enables retrospective analysis of sector performance, GPPT is designed to support forward-looking planning and decision-making — helping distribution utilities strategically manage expenditures to minimize costs and enhance efficiency. The tool allows scenario-based modelling of key parameters, such as tariffs, energy sales, and supply–demand balance, under different assumptions, for example changes in the share of renewables in the energy mix.
The tool builds on the foundational architecture of the RATE tool developed by Prayas Energy Group, tailoring its analytical framework to Goa's energy landscape.
Importantly, GPPT is fully open-source and freely accessible, offering a transparent and cost-effective alternative to the proprietary software typically used for such analysis. The objective is to make advanced power sector planning capabilities more accessible to a wider set of stakeholders.
